He’s lost track of how many times he’s has to relocate since he first opened 38 years ago, but nothing stops Uncle Yap from making some of the best satay in town.
Sen Kee Satay is truly one of the hidden gems in Kepong, tucked away in a quiet corner of Aman Puri, Kepong. No thanks to his previous landlords, Yap Chee Sen has had to change locations so many times that it took me quite a drive to track him down. The shop he was currently renting is usually half-filled at best, which was why I never gave this place any thought though I had passed it countless times. Not any more.
Sen Kee is one of the very few satay stalls that offer duck, pork, and lamb satay. He was out of lamb by the time I came, so I treated myself to duck and pork satay instead.
I’m not one for flowery descriptions, so I’ll just say this – the pork satay BLEW ME AWAY. The duck was good, don’t get me wrong – but oh man, barbequed pork never tasted so good. The meat was perfectly barbequed and had a great balance between charred outside and juicy inside, and I certainly wish I had brought more cash with me to order more. At RM0.90 each, it’s not a cheap affair indeed, but rest assured it was well worth every cent.
The satay sauce was also in a class of its own. It was wonderfully creamy, like soft butter melting in my mouth. It wasn’t very spicy too, which is great for those who don’t have a high tolerance for the hot stuff.
Will I return? Most definitely yes!
