I love meat.
Growing up, vegetables were something I used to shun with every fibre of my body. My dad used to force me to eat my veggies when I was a kid, and I would refuse till I cried. I slowly grew to appreciate my greens much later in life, because it’s healthy and good for you and blah blah blarg.
I still love meat more.
However I gotta say, Chai Bar (Web / FB Page)really outdid themselves. When I first read about them from Rebecca Saw, I thought ‘who would be crazy enough to pay RM26 for a salad bowl?!‘ But I was around the neighbourhood and figured, ok lah why not. And boy, was I glad I made the detour.
My first thought when I saw the bowl – THAT’S A DAMN BIG BOWL. OF VEGGIES. DAMN.
I gingerly took a bite, and was rewarded with a beautiful crunch, as my teeth chowed down on the (very) fresh leaves and nuts. As Malaysians, we’ve been conditioned to think that a salad means “green lettuce + purple lettuce + rockets + cherry tomatoes + croutons + thousand island sauce”. This is not the case here. My salad, the Superfood (RM16 excluding add-ons), comprised the following:
- Green lettuce
- Purple lettuce
- Rockets
- Some other green leaves
- Sweet potatoes
- Beets
- Avocado
- Dried cranberries
- Pine nuts
- Pumpkin seeds
- Quinoa
- Smoked salmon (add-on for RM6)
That’s A LOT of ingredients! Delicious smoked salmon, creamy avocado, that wonderful mix of nuts, and so many other flavours all mixing in my mouth. It’s good. It’s very good.
Would I return? Definitely. If only it wasn’t so bloody far away though…
