Recognise any of these? Yes you got that right, these are among the biggest time sinks the internet has ever known. One has to wonder at the sheer power of cats, potatoes, unicorns and rainbows in stealing us away from productive work in the office. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, then good; stay that way. Do not Google the above keywords, if you value your productive time.
That said, the above “time wasters” do serve some very important purposes, especially over here in Malaysia where English standards aren’t exactly… well, let’s just say we’re not quite there yet, shall we? You’ll be surprised – many of these sites are filled with Grammar Nazi of sorts; the internet can be quite ruthless in correcting language mistakes (e.g. “How to use an Apostrophe”, from The Oatmeal: www.theoatmeal.com/comics/apostrophe)
Also, you learn other stuff that you don’t normally learn in life, like how to turn your old floppy drive into weird R2-D2 speakers, or how to avoid being in the friendzone, or where to download the latest episode of – ah, I’ll tell that story some other time.
